Digital Mammography
A specialized examination using low-dose X-rays to study the breasts. Primarily used for the early detection of breast cancer.
How your exam will proceed
Mammography is quick and is performed by a specialized technician.
- Preparation: You are asked to remove your upper body clothing as well as any product (deodorant, talc) that could obscure the images.
- Positioning: The breast is positioned between two plates which gently compress it for a few seconds. This compression is brief but essential.
- Acquisition: Two images are usually taken of each breast. The technician checks the image quality on site.
- Follow-up: The images are interpreted by the specialist radiologist. The results will be communicated to you according to the current screening protocol.
**Important Note** : It is recommended to schedule your mammogram in the first part of your menstrual cycle (between the 8th and 12th day) for greater comfort.
